Busia Governor Honorable Sospeter Ojaamong has pledged his support for the work of ICS-SP in promoting Skilful Parenting and Ending Violence Against Children. The Governor made the commitment on Monday when ICS-SP director Beatrice Ogutu paid him a courtesy call with a delegation from ICS-SP and Global Communities.
ICS-SP director Ogutu lamented that most men in Busia had abandoned their parenting role forcing women to act as mothers and fathers at the same time. This according to Ogutu has largely contributed to the ever-rising number of street children in the county. “Child abuse and the number of street children in Busia county is on the rise. ICS and Global Communities are coming up with measures to address this dangerous trend," said Beatrice.
Serah Malaba-Kambale, Global Communities’ head of Program Operations and New Program Development, said her organization will support vulnerable households and those already affected by HIV.
ICS-SP works in rural areas of Africa together with families, communities, and other stakeholders to create safe and nurturing environments for children to reach their full potential. At the very core of our work is Skilful Parenting and Ending Violence against Children. Our ambition is that by 2020, 1 million parents and caregivers in rural Africa have improved their knowledge, skills and confidence in ensuring a safe and nurturing environment for their children.
I have known that children can be celebrated. Inside my heart I feel I am safe with all the stakeholders around us. Thank you for coming on board to give our parents the light, my father will be a better father,” says Elisha Odeny, a pupil from Obaga Primary school. >>
