Accountability

Talking back to our communities

The guiding values of ICS are: justice, equality, trust, participation, commitment as well as transparency and accountability.

As much as we we need to be accountable to our donors, we value being accountable to the children, partners and communities we work with. We do this by:

  • involving all stakeholders in the different stages of stakeholders analysis, plan development, monitoring and evaluation.
  • Providing feedback to all stakeholders through documenting and sharing our best practices and lessons learnt.

SROI

One of the methodologies we use in our participatory monitoring and evaluation is the Social Return on Investment. (SROI)

SROI is a new approach to understanding and managing the impacts of a project or a policy. It is based on stakeholders and puts financial values on the important impacts identified by stakeholders which do not have market values. The aim is to include the values of people that are often excluded from markets in terms of money, in order to give people a voice in resource allocation decisions

SROI analysis refers not to one single ratio but more to a way of reporting on value creation. It bases the assessment of value in part on the perception and experience of stakeholders, finds indicators of what has changed and tells the story of this change and, wherever possible, uses monetary values for these indicators. It is an emerging management methodology and a skill set for the measurement and communication of non-financial value.
